Captin Canba
Shout at footballers. Legally.
Overview
Captin Canba is a mobile app where football fans react live to individual players during a match. Everyone’s taps are combined in real time, and after full time the app shows who got roasted the most.
The challenge
Watching a match is passive: the score is on the screen, but the reaction goes to a group chat. We wanted a second screen for the shouting and the cheering: playful, fast, shared with thousands of other fans, and built on emoji rather than free text.
What we built
A fan picks a player on the pitch and taps an emoji. Reactions are batched and broadcast over a WebSocket as bursts, so the stream stays readable. The emoji list, cooldowns and which plan unlocks each one are controlled by the backend, so new reactions ship without an app update. After full time, every tap is tallied.
A live pitch with the starting XI: tap a player to pick your victim Animated reaction bursts combined from every fan watching Post-match results: the most reacted-to player and an emoji-by-emoji breakdown Season awards such as The Punchbag and Golden Cheer Free, Plus and Pro membership through the App Store and Google Play English and Egyptian Arabic with full right-to-left layout, plus light and dark themes
Where it stands
- The app runs end to end on a built-in fake backend while the real API is built
- The backend is specified: REST plus a WebSocket room per match
- Google sign-in and push notifications are planned
